The Subcam is an autonomous underwater camera.
You set it up once on your phone or laptop using the PEBL App, drop it in the water, and it captures video and photos to your schedule. It also records water temperature and camera orientation at every wake-up, so you know the context for every capture.

What is the PEBL SubCam?
The SubCam is a rugged, low-cost underwater monitoring camera. It records HD video and stills on a set schedule, then sleeps to save power, and it is rated for continuous submersion to 50 m.

How much does the SubCam cost?

The SubCam 3 is priced from £1,499 plus VAT. It is made to order in the UK.

How long does delivery take?
SubCams are made to order and typically ship in around 8 weeks.

Can I hire a SubCam instead of buying one?
Yes. We hire SubCam kit for short-term projects under our standard hire terms. The equipment ships to you, you run the deployment, and the data you collect is yours. Email hello@pebl-cic.co.uk for a hire quote.

What can I use the SubCam for?
It is used for marine and freshwater monitoring at seaweed and shellfish farms, artificial reefs, oyster restoration sites and offshore wind projects, and for ecological research.

What data does the SubCam produce?
HD video (.mp4) and JPEG stills, plus a CSV sensor log covering water temperature, camera orientation and other readings.

What is the GrowProbe?
The GrowProbe is a multiparameter water-quality sensor. It measures turbidity, temperature, light, current speed and current direction in one device, with a deployment capability of up to 10 months on a single charge.

How much does the GrowProbe cost?
The GrowProbe 4 is £1,495 ex VAT for a single device covering five parameters (turbidity, temperature, light, current speed and current direction). Comparable multiparameter sondes from established instrument makers typically start around £5,000 and commonly reach £10,000-£15,000 once configured with sensors.

How does the GrowProbe compare to a sonde like a YSI or In-Situ probe?
A single turbidity logger or tilt current meter from an established instrument maker can cost close to, or more than, an entire GrowProbe. The GrowProbe combines five commonly needed parameters in one affordable, easy-to-deploy device. It doesn't measure conductivity/salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH or chlorophyll, so for those a dedicated sonde is still the right tool.

What's the cheapest way to monitor turbidity and current at a marine farm?
The GrowProbe is built for exactly this: turbidity, current speed and current direction, plus temperature and light, in a single £1,495 device, instead of running separate loggers that can individually cost more than the GrowProbe itself.

How long can the GrowProbe stay deployed?
Around 10 months on a single charge at a 30-minute sampling interval, depending on sampling rate and site conditions.

How is PEBL's kit different from a professional survey camera?
Professional-grade underwater survey camera systems typically cost from around £3,500 up to £10,000 or more. PEBL's equipment is built to be affordable enough to deploy at scale, so several units can run across a site and a control site at once.

Do you offer a monitoring service, not just the equipment?
